War Chest [noun]
– Wikipedia (yup, that first link for everything)
: metaphor for any collection of tools or money intended to be used in a challenging or dangerous situation
I’ve come to realize that nearly all things are the statistical equivalent of a normal distribution. The bulk of the population floats somewhere above and below the median point…wealth, intellect, empathy, industry, physique… a far smaller percentage fall left and right onto the ‘tails’. These are the outcasts and downtrodden and the sevants and beholden. I believe some combination of nature and nurture drops you onto this distribution early on in life but that you can traverse it if you so choose.
So I set out to build a war chest of wisdom and wealth to draw upon in this journey to the far right ‘tail’. A life resume to some, but a war chest to me. It dovetails with this crusade we are on. To help us find our Holy Grail.
Devote yourself through constant struggle and intense sacrifice and you just might find it. The Japanese have a word for this, Kata…what a great name for a yacht. Now, what to struggle with and what to sacrifice is something only you can answer.
Along this way, many have highlighted our relationship with time is finite and that we cannot squander youth. Well you can. And many do. My hope is we do not. The only way to make sure of this is to hedge against future regret. Collate your list of things worthwhile to you (this will evolve over time): ideas to tinker with, people to meet, roles to take on, places to see…then get started.
This website is on my list. I hope in some capacity it provides you with the essence of value…to educate, to enrich, or to entertain.
Hands in for the ride.
